The Allentown E-Cube is designed to meet the physical and behavioral needs of rodents, enabling them to create an environment that mimics their wild habitat in accordance with global animal welfare recommendations and the 3Rs. Composed of compacted paper strips, rodents gently shred the E-Cube as a means of enrichment and to create nests that are of a higher quality than those built with other materials.¹
The European Directive 2010/63 recommends that all animal should be "...provided with space of sufficient complexity to allow expression of a wide range of normal behavior [and] to reduce stress-induced behavior."
The primary aim of environmental enrichment is to enhance animal well-being by providing animals with sensory and motor stimulation, through structures and resources that facilitate the expression of species-typical behaviors and promote psychological well-being through physical exercise, manipulative activities, and cognitive challenges according to species-specific characteristics.
